SCHOOL strike dates scheduled for next week are “under consideration” following disruption caused by Storm Ciarán and discussions between a teaching union and the government.

The National Education Union is due to hold three days of strikes on 13, 15 and 16 November, as part of an ongoing pay dispute.

But after schools were closed as a result of the storm, with some remaining shut due to damage, the NEU said they were considering whether the action would go ahead next week.

The union said the dates were “under consideration” and that they would issue an update “in due course”.

All government schools and colleges closed on Thursday last week owing to the “significant risks” posed by the storm. They remained closed on Friday to “assess damage and reopen roads”.

The majority of schools reopened as normal on Monday.

Hautlieu School is set to reopen to students tomorrow.

Meanwhile, lessons continue at Samarès School and nearby locations, while essential repairs are carried out in closed-off areas of the building.
