A 47-YEAR-OLD man who was found dead on the beach at Grève d’Azette on 30 December last year died from drowning, an inquest has found.
Relief Coroner Sarah Whitby added that it seemed likely that Daniel Gordon Batho had suffered a seizure or fall that had caused him to fall into the sea. An examination afterwards confirmed that there were no drugs or alcohol in his body.
The inquest heard that Mr Batho had a genetic heart condition which sometimes caused falls and occasional blackouts and he had been advised by his GP not to drive or spend time in the gym.
Mr Batho had visited friends on the evening of 29 December and had set off back to his parents’ house between 8pm and 9pm. He had told one of the friends that he might see him the following day at around 1pm.
Mr Batho’s body was discovered on the beach at 9.25am the following morning by a dog walker.
Ms Whitby said: “Mr Batho died by drowning. It is likely he suffered a medical event that caused him to fall into the water and he was unable to extricate himself.”
She returned a verdict of accidental death.
