THE Bailiff has praised the efforts of Islanders who have helped clear streets and checked on loved ones in the aftermath of Storm Ciarán.
Sir Timothy Le Cocq thanked essential workers and emergency responders, “who have supported us and kept us safe and maintained essential services during the severe storm that has buffeted the Island over the last 24 hours or so”.
These workers had responded with exemplary professionalism, courage and kindness, the Bailiff said.
His praise extended to those working in the civil service, in government and in parishes, who had worked through the night co-ordinating the response to the storm.
But with some people injured and many evacuated, he said that “the clean-up of the effects of Storm Ciarán will take time and our thoughts are with those who have suffered”.
He added that Islanders would continue to need support in the coming days.
Comparing Storm Ciarán to the Great Storm of 1987, he added: “We can once again be proud of our Island, the response, caring and community spirit of our people and the commitment of our emergency and other services.”
