STORM Ciarán has claimed the life of one of the Zoo’s flamingos.

Durrell made the announcement on Thursday, saying that all staff were safe and all animals accounted for.

But, a spokesperson added, one of their elderly Chilean flamingos died during the night.

Several trees on the site fell during the storm, which will need to be cleared before the Zoo can reopen.

The Zoo was closed on Thursday and will stay closed until at least Sunday. The spokesperson said that they would make a further announcement if the closure needed to extend into next week.
