Man (64) jailed for nine years after raping vulnerable teenager in Snow Hill car park

Joseph Raymond Lloyd (36838860)

A 64-YEAR-OLD man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the “predatory” and “opportunistic” rape of a vulnerable teenager who he followed after leaving a St Helier pub.

Joseph Raymond Lloyd subjected his victim to a painful and traumatic assault behind a van in Snow Hill car park, the Royal Court heard.

Lloyd denied rape and sexual penetration without consent during a four-day trial in July, but was unanimously found guilty by a jury.

During the Royal Court trial, the jury was shown CCTV footage of Lloyd leaving the Dog & Sausage pub in Halkett Street on the night in question, just as the victim was passing, appearing to follow close behind her.

CCTV later captured the two in Snow Hill, where Lloyd was seen kissing the girl and leading her by the hand behind a van parked in Snow Hill car park.

Once there, the court heard he lifted up the victim’s dress, assaulted her and raped her.

Following consideration of the case by jurats, Deputy Bailiff Robert MacRae imposed a sentence of nine years for the rape charge, and seven years for the sexual penetration offence, to run concurrently.
