A “MUSIC memorial” is set to be held next month in memory of a father and son who were killed in a hit-and-run.

The ‘Lowe’s Legacy Gig’ will be held at the Lido on Saturday 25 November in memory of Dean Lowe (48) and his 11-year-old son, Charlie, who both died in August after being hit by a vehicle.

A 28-year-old man – who has not been named – was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and failing to stop and report the collision. He was later released on bail to allow for further investigations to be carried out.

A fundraising page was set up in memory of the father and son, with the aim of “having a positive impact in the Island for performing arts” – one of Mr Lowe and Charlie’s “passions in life”.

The page raised over £50,000, which Craig Le Boutellier – the brother of Dean’s fiancée and Charlie’s mum, Ashleigh – explained would be “used to help their family and also to benefit young amateur dramatics and disadvantaged communities in the Island”.

Mr Lowe and Charlie’s passion for music and the performing arts has inspired the ‘Lowe’s Legacy Gig’.

Organised by Alison Blance and Toni O’Flaherty, the “music memorial fundraiser gig” will feature a variety of local artists.

The organisers explained that “so many people have reached out wanting to do something, but the main reasons are to keep the memory of Dean and Charlie alive”.

They said: “This is the first fundraising event since the Lowe’s Legacy Fund has been set up in their honour, which will help under-privileged children to be able to afford to learn a musical instrument or to take lessons in the performing arts – both of these were close to Dean and Charlie’s hearts.”

They added: “Dean knew so many people in bands and artists that we were confident that we’d have plenty of people offering to perform [at the gig].

“There will be other fundraising events being held in the future also, some more geared towards children, performing arts and some for music. We want to ensure that all their passions are covered and that all ages can attend.”

Attendees of the Lowe’s Legacy Gig can expect “some brilliant live music acts, a Beatles tribute band, ‘Mad-Chester’ mash up, plus a raffle with some great prizes, and lots and lots of dancing and singing.”

There is also a new group being formed especially for the event, which will be made up of people who played with Mr Lowe in other bands, performing together for the first time.

There will also be a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

Tickets will be sold at the event, with the top prizes drawn on the night.

The Lido said that they are “honoured and humbled to be hosting this amazing event”.
