SHOULD the sale and packaging of vapes be subject to the same restrictions as cigarettes?
Cigarette packets come with graphic health warnings – and must not be on public view in shops. But there are no such restrictions for vapes, which are becomingly increasingly popular among young Islanders.
And a joint JEP and Bailiwick Express investigation has this week revealed that vaping products illegal in the UK are freely available in Jersey due to legal loopholes that were not closed because of ‘pandemic pressures’.
The UK introduced stringent regulations on vaping products in 2016 to ensure safety and quality of products, and clear information for consumers and to protect children. This ranges from nicotine content to ‘maximum puffs’.
But in Jersey, the only restriction on the sale of vapes is that they cannot be sold or gifted to under-18s.
So, do you think the sale and packaging of vapes should have the same restrictions as cigarettes? Take part in our poll below.
