'Urgent' investigation launched into 'illegal traders targeting elderly Islanders' in Jersey

AN ‘urgent’ investigation has been launched into ‘illegal traders’ who the States police say are targeting elderly Islanders.

The force said that a joint investigation with the Population Office was under way into the activities of three UK companies.

Officers have urged Islanders to check on elderly relatives, who may be ’embarrassed’ after paying ‘large sums’ to the firms.

In a statement, the States police said: ‘A few days ago we posted about illegal traders operating in the Island offering pressure washing services.

‘The company names were Next Up Roofing Contractors Ltd, Mayfair Roofing Contractors Ltd and Diamond Roofing and Cleaning Ltd. They have been targeting elderly members of our community. They are driving UK registered vans.

‘Have you or a relative paid for their services?

‘We need you to get in contact. Please call us or email: hello@jersey.police.je quoting ref number: 13/09/23/610

‘We are urgently conducting an investigation in conjunction with the Population Office from the Government of Jersey.

‘We understand that Facebook might not be the primary news method for the elderly in our community. Please check with relatives and friends to make sure that they see this message and haven’t been affected.

‘Some people might be embarrassed about the large sums of money given to these companies, but we want to help and support you.’
