Jersey teen destroyed £2,000 of food – after turning off shop's freezer

A TEENAGER destroyed £2,000 worth of food in a garage shop’s freezer by switching it off.

The 14-year-old, who cannot be named, admitted malicious damage when he appeared in the Youth Court.

Legal adviser Samantha Morris, prosecuting, said the offence took place on 14 July, when the teenager deliberately turned off the freezer in Robert’s garage in St Peter. Ms Morris said: ‘It resulted in a large amount of food in the freezer going to waste.’

The court heard that the teenager had no previous convictions.

Relief Magistrate Sarah Fitz adjourned sentencing until 17 October to allow for a background report and the teenager was released on bail.
