AN experienced public sector auditor from the UK has been appointed to the post of Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General in Jersey.

Helen Thompson, who joins the Jersey Audit Office from Ernst and Young where she was public sector audit partner, will take up her new post in November.

With more than 30 years’ experience in public audit and a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, she has focused on leading specialist audit teams to deliver external audits in UK central government, local government and in the National Health Service.

Commenting on the appointment, the CAG, Lynn Pamment, said that Ms Thompson’s credentials and expertise among the 25-strong field of candidates were exceptional.

‘Her experience and values are aligned closely with the core objectives of the Jersey Audit Office which are to provide independent assurance to the people of Jersey that public money is spent economically, efficiently and effectively; and that the controls and governance arrangements in place within public bodies demonstrate value for money,’ she said.

Ms Pamment added that she looked forward to welcoming her to the team as they moved towards the landmark of 20 years since the establishment of the office of CAG in 2025.
