A WOMAN who admitted stealing clothes from the town centre shop where she used to work has been ordered to pay for the goods.

Annette Abolina (37) was employed at United Colors of Benetton in King Street last year, but was caught stealing £90 of items from the store on 28 November, the Magistrate’s Court heard.

Legal adviser Susie Sharpe, prosecuting, said: ‘CCTV captured her taking some items from the shop, placing them in her bag and then leaving the store with the items.’

Advocate Nicholas Mière, defending, pointed out that Abolina had no previous convictions.

He added: ‘She is extremely remorseful. She was an excellent worker, and this was firmly out of character.

‘Her deep regret for her action was conveyed by her to her manager by text message.’

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu said he gave Abolina credit for her previous good character in imposing a binding over order for a year.

He also ordered her to pay back the £90.

He told her: ‘It is a shame that you have blotted your copybook in this way.’
