JERSEY Water will transform a former data centre at Rue des Prés trading estate into its new headquarters, if a planning application is approved.
The utility company is hoping to house almost all of its services under one roof, after selling its former base off Westmount Road to the government for £3.2 million in 2021, as the site formed part of the now defunct Our Hospital project.
If the application is given the go-ahead, the new headquarters would include customer services, the operational water supply teams, workshops and a state-of-the-art water quality testing laboratory.
The warehouse-type building is near Jersey Post’s headquarters in St Saviour and used to be a data recovery centre owned by Itex and then C5 Alliance.
Helier Smith, chief executive of Jersey Water, which currently has its headquarters in New Street, said: ‘This is a significant milestone for our 140-year-old company.
‘This investment supports the long-term future of the Island’s essential water supply and the important role that we play in serving our community.
‘With our customers very much in mind, our new property will bring our people and services together under one roof, so we become more operationally efficient and deliver improved service for generations to come.
‘At the same time, we have taken every opportunity to make this development as environmentally sustainable and energy efficient as possible.’
