MANCHE Iles Express have paid tribute to a crew member who died following an incident on the Victoria Pier last month, wishing him ‘fair winds’.

The crew member has now been named as Bernard Jambon, whose funeral was held at St Malo Cathedral this week.

Posting a tribute on social media, the ferry company wrote: ‘It is with great sadness that we wrote these few words.

‘Unanimously appreciated, we will forever keep in our memories your kindness and good humour.

‘Rest in peace Bernard… Fair winds…’

Mr Jambon died following what the States police called an ‘incident’ on the Victoria Pier last month.

In a statement released at the time, the force said: ‘On arrival the man had been pulled out of the water by crew members of the Manche Iles Express. Ambulance crew also attended and transported the man to hospital but he sadly passed away a short time later.’

A police investigation into Mr Jambon’s death is ongoing.
