JERSEY Met has issued an updated thunderstorm warning.

The yellow-level warning states that isolated storms will affect the Channel Islands until about 3pm.

Several thunderstorms passed close to the Island on Thursday morning, with one, which tracked west to east off the south coast, delivering more than 30 lightning strikes.

According to Jersey Met, more showers are expected tomorrow, but the bank holiday weekend is due to be mainly dry, with sunny spells and temperatures of about 22°C or 23°C.

The UK Met Office says that the weather is likely to remain unsettled until at least the middle of September.

Its forecast for 28 August to 6 September states: ‘The remainder of August is likely to be generally unsettled, with showers or longer spells of rain affecting many areas. Potential for windy conditions, most likely in the north.

‘Early September is likely to stay changeable, with a mixture of sunny spells and showers. ‘Western areas have a higher likelihood of more frequent wet conditions, but showers are possible throughout the country.

‘Temperatures are expected to remain close to average throughout the period, although it may feel cool under any prolonged cloud or rain.’

It says that the weather will remain ‘changeable’ for the forecast period of 7 September to 21 September, but adds: ‘Towards the middle of the month, however, there is a possibility of high pressure becoming more influential, particularly in the south of the UK, which could lead to some more prolonged dry spells in this area of the country.

‘Temperatures are likely to remain around average through early September but may become slightly above-average approaching the middle of the month.’
