PUBS and bars wanting to screen the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final have received the go-ahead to open, and begin serving alcohol, earlier.

The Bailiff has allowed licensed venues screening the England v Spain showdown on Sunday to open from 10am (rather than 11am) ‘to allow patrons to be seated in good time’, according to the Bailiff’s office.

These venues will also be able to serve alcohol from 10.30am.

Bailiff Sir Timothy Le Cocq said this exemption was due to the recent success of the Lionesses and ‘the significance of this achievement both nationally and internationally’.

The extension will only apply to early opening and there will not be an extension to closing times.

The decision has been made in consultation with relevant agencies and members of the industry.
