SPAGHETTI eating and yard-of-ale drinking competitions are set to return to the east of the Island tomorrow amid a line-up of games, music and entertainment planned for this year’s Gorey Fête.
The much-loved annual event has been moved from its traditional Thursday date to this Friday in the hope that more people will be able to attend.
The day will be concluded by a fireworks display.
St Martin Constable Karen Shenton-Stone said: ‘We thought we would mirror the Battle of Flowers and move to Friday. Hopefully more people won’t have work the next day.
‘It is a small committee that runs the Gorey Fête and they work incredibly hard. The only thing we are worried about is the weather but it should be an enjoyable occasion nonetheless.’
Entry costs £7 for adults and £3 for under-16s, with the gates due to open at 10am and the fireworks display scheduled to round off proceedings at 10.30pm.
‘There is something for everyone, so we hope as many people as possible will come and enjoy this year’s Gorey Fête,’ Mrs Shenton-Stone added.
This year the St Martin’s Gorey Fête Committee has selected Jersey Stroke Support as the key beneficiary for the event.
