WITH his waffle recipe perfected, one Islander has decided that it is time to take his popular business to the next level… with a permanent location in town.
Opening soon, The Waffle House will occupy the site formerly operated by Junction Jersey, a juice bar and coffee shop, at 2 Broad Street.
The man behind the waffles is Ian Carr, director of Luxury Jersey Dairy Ice Cream, who currently operates The Waffle Wagon. He has assured Islanders that this mobile business, which often attracts long queues, will stay on the road at various locations across the Island after the new restaurant opens.
‘It should have been open three weeks ago,’ Mr Carr said, after explaining that he was waiting for new signage and freezers before opening the doors.
The handover from previous owners Junction Jersey has happened fast, with the property on sale at the end of June, and all paperwork completed by mid-July.
Mr Carr said that since he started The Waffle Wagon in January 2021,‘I’ve been perfecting my recipe, changing things up a little bit, getting things right, using the right waffle irons, and now I’m ready. Now it’s all come together.’
Usually situated in St Ouen’s Bay, where he is busy at weekends, Mr Carr said the town location will allow him to be ‘a lot busier during the week’.
He added: ‘Going into the winter, we will be adding savoury waffles to our menu. There’s lots to come.’
