THE pink house on Val Plaisant that has been the home of Age Concern Jersey for 30 years is for sale for almost £1 million as the charity moves into new, purpose-built premises across the road.
The house is Grade 3 listed and includes two kitchens, four bathrooms, 13 other rooms and a lift – spread over four floors.
Age Concern has grown six-fold over the past four years, having gone from about 50 members to around 300, according to Age Concern chair Ben Shenton. The increase in demand can be explained by Jersey’s ageing population (consistent with trends across Europe).
Windsor House is for sale for unofficial tender by Maillard & Co. A listing suggests a price of £950,000, while a previous listing with Thompson Estates that included the shop gave a price of £1,350,000.
The property will need to be turned into housing after the charity sells it, as was set out in the early 1990s when Age Concern took it over. How exactly this will happen and whether it will be turned into flats ‘will be up to whoever buys it’, according to Mr Shenton said.
The charity is planning to keep the shop, which is in a separate wing of the house.
