Victim of alleged assault died

A MAN who was seriously injured in an alleged assault in St Helier earlier this year has died, the States police have confirmed.

The 62-year-old suffered head injuries during an incident on Albert Street, near the junction with Clearview Street, on Sunday 5 March.

A 17-year-old was later arrested on suspicion of grave and criminal assault.

In a statement released yesterday, the States police said: ‘Police can confirm a 62-year-old man who was involved in an incident in Albert Street on Sunday 5 March sadly passed away on 22 March.

‘He had remained in hospital since the incident, which is still under police investigation.

‘A 17-year-old male who was involved in the same incident was arrested at the time and remains on police bail.

‘A report has been prepared for the Deputy Viscount.’

The force declined to make further comment.
