SEVEN Jersey singers, the youngest just ten years old, will appear at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday evening in a concert celebrating the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain’s 40th anniversary.

The Jersey contingent, comprising six children and young adults with vocal coach and singer Nicki Kennedy, will join 1,000 participants in the event to showcase current and former members of the choir. Ms Kennedy, who regularly coaches the NYCGB, has been closely involved with them for over a decade.

Music will include an innovative performance of Thomas Tallis’s Spem in alium, sung by past and present choir members, familiar favourites reflecting NYCGB’s past repertoire and the première of a newly-commissioned 40-part work by principal conductor Ben Parry.

Ms Kennedy said it was a privilege to be involved with the NYCGB and that she was proud to be able to perform with the group from Jersey.

‘It brings me great delight to expose our own Jersey students to world-class excellence in their choral training,’ she said.

‘I see how these courses light a fire in them, show them possibilities and bring them to a level beyond anything they would imagine they were capable of – not to mention the friends for life that they make on the courses, as they meet like-minded musicians.’
