A MUCH-loved Islander is to be remembered next month when runners take to Victoria Avenue dressed in yellow.
The Run for Cass event will return for a third year on 12 March and will see participants raise money and awareness of suicide prevention in memory of teacher Cassie Porter.
Organiser Tom Stead has encouraged all attendees to wear yellow – Cassie’s favourite colour.
Mr Stead said: ‘The aim of the event is to bring everyone together so that we can all remember Cassie and raise awareness of suicide prevention while doing so.
‘Anyone is welcome to join the walk/run and we hope that by wearing yellow we will raise awareness around suicide and encourage positive conversations and engagement as a means to prevent suicide.’
The first year’s event raised £20,000 for Thrive Jersey, an organisation which develops community-wide initiatives to help prevent suicide in the Island.

Last year runners raised over £7,000 which was split between Thrive Jersey, Jersey Child Care Trust and Rouge Bouillon School. The funds raised paid for the installation of a new outside area for the pupils at the school.
‘As the school’s “eco teacher”, this is something that Cassie had planned for the school while she worked there,’ said Mr Stead.
This year’s run will see attendees walk or run along the Avenue from La Frégate Café and back, beginning at 9am.
Mr Stead said they would be setting up a Just Giving page once a charity had been nominated for this year’s fundraising.
More information on the event can be found at the ‘Run for Cass’ event page on Facebook.
