A SEARCH operation was launched this morning following reports that two red flares were fired out to sea off Jersey’s coast.

The report was made to the French Coastguard earlier this morning.

The St Catherine’s lifeboat and a sea fisheries RIB, as well as the Channel Islands Air Search plane, all searched an area of sea several miles off Jersey’s south-east coast.

The lifeboat returned to port about two hours later.
