THE ship leading the operation to recover the bodies from the wreck of a sunken trawler following a collision with a freight ship has paused its search today.
Ports of Jersey said the Freja ship, which has been operating at the site of the L’Ecume II’s wreck, will undertake maintenance, refuel and change crew today.
The three fishermen on board the vessel – Michael Michieli, Larry Simyunn and Jervis Baligat – died after the 18-metre fishing boat collided with Condor’s Commodore Goodwill off Jersey’s west coast last Thursday.
Earlier this week two bodies near the wreck were recovered and brought to shore. However, their identities are yet to be revealed.
A Ports spokesperson said yesterday: ‘The Freja is currently onsite of the wreck of the L’Ecume II and will continue to search the area for the rest of the day.
‘Tomorrow she will undertake essential maintenance, a refuel and also change crew.
‘The review of the data from the search so far will continue while she is away from the site and will inform the next phase of the operation.’
