St Helier road reopens after ‘small’ gas leak repaired

RESIDENTS of Mont Pinel had to be temporarily evacuated from their homes following a ‘small’ gas leak.

States police closed the road near Mont Millais on Wednesday afternoon to allow a ‘thorough investigation’ by Island Energy, who said they were ‘very aware’ that the public would be concerned about the road closure.

Engineers ‘found a very small detection of gas outside’ and ‘performed an immediate repair’, according to Island Energy, who labelled it part of their ‘business as usual’ operations. The road was later reopened.

In a statement posted on social media, Island Energy wrote: ‘We are very aware that the public will be concerned about the earlier road closure at Mont Pinel. The road has now been opened by States of Jersey Police, following a thorough investigation by our gas engineers, and anyone who was evacuated has returned to their home.’
