TWO Filipino workers who went missing along with much loved fisherman Michael Michieli after a trawler sank following a collision with a freight ship on Thursday morning have been named.

Larry Simyunn and Jervis Baligat were on board the 18-metre L’Ecume II with Mr Michieli when it collided with Condor’s Commodore Goodwill off Jersey’s west coast.

The trio have not been since since the trawler went down, despite one of the biggest search operations in the Island’s recent history.

Rebecca Michieli, daughter of Mr Michieli, has now started a fundraising page to support the families of the two Filipino workers and has so far raised over £30,000.

On her Justgiving page, she wrote: ‘We know now that there is no hope of them coming home alive but we continue to search for them all to bring them home to rest.

‘Larry and Jervis would spend nine months at a time working with my dad and would send home a good portion of the money they made to their families back home in the Philippines. Jervis had just been home for three months and was back for another nine months as he was so fond of my dad and the work he was doing.

‘My family would like to do as much as we can for Larry and Jervis, we know money will never bring them back but we can at least take some of the stress away and allow them time to grieve without the burden of financial troubles.’

In a statement released this morning by John Napton, chief executive of Condor, he said: ‘Following completion of a dive inspection and other checks in Jersey on Friday, Commodore Goodwill has been cleared to re-enter service.

‘The ship positioned to Portsmouth yesterday and will resume sailings to the Island’s this evening.

‘Condor continues to work closely with all authorities following the tragic incident last Thursday.’
