A NEW map has been created showing all the Asian hornet nests found in Jersey this year.
A record 174 nests have so far been discovered, mainly in eastern and northern areas of the Island.
Very few have been discovered in the western parishes.
The map shows primary nests (PN) which are small nests built in the spring, and the larger secondary nests (SN) which appear later in the year.
Queen hornets will now have emerged from the secondary nests to hibernate for the winter, before going on to create new colonies in the spring.
One Islander recently had a shock – and ended up calling the police – after finding a hornet sleeping in her trousers. Full story here.
