EMERGENCY services were called to Sand Street car park yesterday after a driver’s ‘sneezing fit’ led to a car being shunted through a barrier.

The incident reportedly left one individual – who had been on the lower floor opposite the barrier – with minor bruising.

A police spokesperson said that a female driver parking another car had a ‘sneezing fit’ that caused her foot to hit the accelerator, which meant she ‘shunted the red Mini forward through the barrier’.

‘The red Mini owner wasn’t in the car at the time. The driver had no injuries but a lady on a lower floor who fell over when the Mini came through the barrier (probably through fright or shock) was seen by paramedics for minor bruising,’ the spokesperson added.

The owner of the Mini posted about the incident on Facebook, thanking the officers and paramedics who attended the scene – as well as the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service ‘who had to come and winch my car back onto the floor I’d parked it on’.

‘I’m very thankful I wasn’t there at the time,’ she wrote.

‘I was actually on my way back to the car, five minutes later and I’d have been putting shopping in the boot. Having seen the damage to my car, I can’t imagine the damage the impact would have done to me.’
