THE sentencing of a man who stabbed a fellow pub-goer has been delayed.

Paul Anthony Hadikin left the Temple bar in Stopford Road on 3 December after getting into an argument – and returned around 15 minutes later armed with a large kitchen knife, which he plunged into his victim’s stomach.

Hadikin was subsequently convicted of attempted murder following a trial in the Royal Court in July.

The 58-year-old was set to be sentenced today, but the case was adjourned. He is due to return to the Royal Court on Friday for a new sentencing date to be set.

Hadikin pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted murder and claimed that he had fetched the knife only to scare the other man, but a jury unanimously found him guilty of the crime.

During the four-day trial, Hadikin’s actions were described as being motivated by revenge, with the prosecution labelling it a ‘calculated and brutal act of violence’ in which ‘death was nearly the outcome’.
