A JERSEY restaurant which ‘pushed boundaries’ has been recognised for making one of the world’s 50 best burgers.

J B’s Brewhouse – a restaurant, bar and microbrewery in Wharf Street – came 38th on travel company Big 7 Travel’s ‘world’s top best burgers’ list – also making it the third-best burger in the British Isles.

The local business is part of the BeServed Group, which is owned and operated by Joshua Band and Marcus Calvani.

Mr Calvani said: ‘We’ve tested products, we’ve pioneered production, we’ve pushed boundaries and perceptions, we’ve been insulted about it, laughed at, even threatened about it, over the years, but we’ve kept going.’

Their best-selling burger is the Dirty Cow, which is topped with smoked streaky bacon, homemade sun-blushed ketchup and a black truffle mac ’n’ cheese.

He added: ‘This award is not just a recognition for our burger, it’s far more than that. This is recognition for everyone that’s involved in the creation of each and every burger.’

J B’s was ranked alongside burgers from as far afield as Australia and Argentina. The owners said they believed their commitment to using local produce was a factor in their success.

Mr Calvani said: ‘Since returning to my home island of Jersey, a focus of mine and our group has been “local, local, local”. Wherever and whenever possible we use local.’

Mr Band said: ‘J B’s was born as a result of my career as a professional table tennis player and having a desire to enter the world of hospitality. Marcus had recently returned from living in the USA and realised that our island hadn’t yet embraced the global trends of craft beer, smokehouse barbecue, gourmet burgers, and entertainment casual dining. We merged all these skills and concepts into one and J B’s Brewhouse was born.

‘Burgers aren’t just about cheap fast food for kids, they can become gourmet very easily. We have no boundaries for creativity and among our team, burger specials is a competitive challenge.’

Big 7 Travel ranked burgers by considering a range of criteria, including critic reviews, customer feedback, location, accessibility, presentation, value for money and atmosphere.
