New charter, but Clipper stays on Condor’s overnight sailings

CONDOR Clipper will continue to cover Commodore Goodwill’s overnight sailings, despite the ferry company chartering a Finnish freighter between Portsmouth and Guernsey.

MV Midas, a 108-metre vessel, is being sea-trialled by Condor to provide operational capacity after Goodwill – one of its freight ships – was damaged in a shipyard while undergoing a month-long biennial check in Spain.

The unplanned repairs meant the company was forced to continue operating Clipper, its freight and passenger ship, on Goodwill’s overnight schedule.

Additional high-speed sailings were also put on between Poole, Jersey and Guernsey to try to minimise disruption over the autumn half-term.

Commenting on whether Midas could also be used to support Jersey’s freight operations, a Condor spokesperson said: ‘Due to Commodore Goodwill’s delay leaving dry dock, we are chartering the Midas to provide cover between Portsmouth and Guernsey. Clipper is to continue operating the overnight Goodwill schedule until Goodwill returns.’
