JERSEY is set for a blast of unseasonably warm weather – but could also get a coating of Saharan dust.

A large and deep area of low pressure in the Atlantic is expected to set up a southerly air flow, sending a plume of very mild air across the islands.

Temperatures are forecast to hit 20°C every day from Tuesday to at least Friday – several degrees above the average for this time of year.

However, forecasters in Europe are predicting that the winds will also scoop up Saharan dust and send it north across Spain, France and the Channel Islands.

Forecasters at France’s Meteo-Express say the deposits will be ‘quite modest’ but that the sky could be ‘slightly tinted’.

In March, cars and buildings across Jersey were left coated in a thin layer of dust after particles from a Saharan sandstorm reached the Island.

The phenomenon was experienced across a large swathe of Europe and especially in Spain, where residents of some cities were told to use facemasks.

In Madrid, visibility was significantly reduced and the sky turned orange.
