A YOUNG woman who punched two friends while drunk has been given a probation order and warned about her future conduct.

The Magistrate’s Court heard yesterday that Elizabeth Noel (21) carried out the assaults on her acquaintances – one male and one female – at around 2.30am on 20 July following an argument about tobacco.

The court was told that the attacks left the male victim with a bleeding nose and other facial injuries, while the female victim had soreness to one eye and Noel was nursing a swollen hand.

Advocate Christina Hall, defending, said Noel had no recollection of the incident, but accepted that she had committed the twin attacks, pleading guilty to two counts of common assault at a previous hearing.

Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris described the incident as ‘a silly argument between friends who had all been drinking’, but added that Noel’s conduct had then escalated the situation.

Noel was made the subject of concurrent nine-month probation orders for each offence and urged by Mr Harris to keep out of trouble and to co-operate with the Probation Service.
