CHARLES III has been officially declared King during a proclamation ceremony in the Royal Square on Sunday.
The Bailiff Sir Timothy Le Cocq paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during the ceremony before reading the proclamation.
A special States sitting was held during which the day of The Queen’s funeral on Monday 19 September was declared a bank holiday, in line with national plans to mourn the death of Her Majesty.
The public proclamation was by the Bailiff and consisted of representative groups including Members of the States Assembly, members of the Royal Court, senior civil servants, members of the Blue Light and Home Affairs Departments, Veterans of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, and uniformed cadet organisations.

Sir Timothy said: ‘Following the sadness of the last few days, it is a great honour and privilege to read the proclamation of the accession to the throne of His Majesty King Charles III.
‘Tributes have been rightly paid in the States Assembly on Friday to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and those tributes were both full and well deserved. During the 70 years of her reign, she served her peoples with an exemplary dedication and skill.
‘Her qualities of kindness and resolve, of dignity and humanity made her a truly exceptional Monarch.’
A 21-gun salute took place at Glacis Field to mark the proclamation of King Charles III.
