THE first phase of a new development in St Brelade’s Bay is to open later this month.
The project around the historic Conway Tower, on the site formerly occupied by the Wayside Café, will eventually include four dwellings, a walkway linking a new bus stop on Mont Sohier to the beachside promenade, a surf shop, restaurant and environmental area.
Finishing touches were being applied this week to the first phase of the project, which includes the street frontage, a new car park, the walkway, a three-bedroomed rental property, surf shop and restaurant.
A spokesman for Conway Tower Properties, the business that is carrying out the project, said the work also included redecoration of the 18th century tower, which will made be available for holiday lets in 2023. A surrounding wall, built in the 1970s, has been removed to enable a full view of the tower.
The surf shop will be accessed from the slipway adjacent to the site and be operated by Jono Steventon, of Jono’s Watersports, while the restaurant site has been leased by pub company Randalls, with the Beach Club venue due to open next week.
A three-bedroomed property above the Beach Club is also close to completion and is being marketed to attract interest from high-net-worth individuals as a rental dwelling.
To the east of the site, the designers say, the environmental area will retain a wild character to provide a habitat suitable for lizards, toads, voles and other wildlife. Three further dwellings received planning approval as part of the development, although it is not yet clear when work will start on the next phase of the project.
