THE Samarès Manor Country Fair returned over the bank holiday weekend, with all funds being donated to the Ukrainian Appeal and the manor’s new winter project, The Bee Hub.

Held on Monday, the annual family-friendly event featured live entertainment, food and charity stalls, arts and crafts sessions, and much more.

Younger Islanders were able to ride on some of the oldest carousels in the Channel Islands, including one dating back almost 150 years, while Kydd De La Mare entertained young and old alike with some giant bubble-blowing displays.

There was live music throughout the sun-kissed day, with the Jersey Ukulele Club showcasing their plucking skills, as well as a range of vintage automobiles (and a Dalek) situated beside the manor house, and interactive demonstrations of farming techniques, such as threshing.

Speaking ahead of the event, Samarès Manor managing director Caryl Kemp said: ‘This is such a lovely event to host – it’s like stepping back in time to the proper, old fetes.

‘This is the first time we’ve put on the fair since Covid-19 started. It was so hard when we closed in 2020 after organising and preparing the gardens for viewers to come.

‘The money being donated to Ukraine is something we are so honoured to do,’ she added. ‘Some of the funds raised will also go towards our new Bee Hub. This will be a new educational area on the grounds that will teach people the importance of bees and the best pollinator plants to grow at home. We hope that the area will be ready for our members and visitors to view by the end of March next year.’
