FIREFIGHTERS were called out following reports of a large fire on the headland near La Tourelle on Jersey’s north coast last night.

White Watch and members from the Western on-call team initially responded at about 8.35pm with two fire engines and a water carrier.

This was increased to four fire engines, two water carriers and the duty manager following concerns that the fire was significant and in a remote location.

The blaze was quickly surrounded and the response reduced to enable crews to deal with other incidents.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘During this time we also received calls for a smell of burning in St Helier, La Pulente, an area near La Haule, and Clos De Sables.

‘These incidents were dealt with by our Western and town on-call teams, highlighting the important role they play in keeping the Island safe.’
