TWO rowers training to cross the Atlantic were rescued by the RNLI after getting into difficulty in strong winds off Jersey’s coast.
Peter Wright and Steve Hayes, who crew Dragonfish Row, are preparing to take part in The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in December.
Participants will row more than 3,000 miles from San Sebastian in La Gomera, Spain, to Nelson’s Dockyard, English Harbour, in Antigua.
On Tuesday the pair were out training when they got into trouble and called for assistance.
They tweeted: ‘An interesting row. Strong winds and tide prevented us being able to row back to Jersey so requested help from the @rnlijersey, @jerseycoastguard.
‘Lots learnt over a 90km row/drift with 17 hours at para anchor in rough seas. All good training but thanks to everyone involved in returning us safely especially the merchant vessel Serafina and the great lads from the @rnlijersey.’
