ISLANDERS formed a ‘living flag’ at St Ouen’s Bay on Sunday in a blue and yellow show of solidarity with Ukraine.

Around 200 people showed up to the event, which took place at Le Braye and also marked the beginning of Ukraine Week.

Organisers Side by Side had urged people to show support by wearing either blue or yellow to recreate the Ukrainian flag.

The local charity specialises in supporting victims of war and has organised a week of events in order to raise funds on behalf of the Bailiff’s Ukraine Appeal.

Multiple events are due to take place next week, with the dates chosen to mark the anniversary of Ukraine’s declaration of independence from the Soviet Union 31 years ago, which was 24 August 1991.

A schedule of events for Ukraine Week is available on sidebyside.je/ukraine-week and updates can be found on the charity’s Facebook page @jerseysidebyside.
