ISLANDERS have just one day left to submit their nominations for what has become a record-breaking Pride of Jersey awards.
By yesterday, 174 nominations had been received across the 14 categories – the highest total in the event’s seven-year history.
The awards recognise the extraordinary contributions of individuals, charities, businesses and organisations who go above and beyond to support Islanders or help their community.
JEP editor Andy Sibcy said: ‘The Pride of Jersey awards are always the highlight of the JEP calendar, as they provide the opportunity to celebrate those extraordinary Islanders who go the extra mile for their community.
‘Each year, it is uplifting and moving to read the stories of those who have been nominated and this year is certainly no different.
‘With just a day left until nominations close, I would ask that Islanders help us celebrate those who go above and beyond to make our Island so special by nominating your unsung heroes.’
As in previous years, once all nominations have been received a public vote will be held to determine the three shortlisted finalists for each award. Panels of judges representing each category – featuring last year’s winner, a representative from the sponsor and a member of the JEP team – will then choose a winner for each award.
All three finalists in each category will be invited to the awards ceremony, which is scheduled to take place this autumn, with the winners receiving a prize worth £1,000 from their category sponsor. Jersey Post has been confirmed as the headline sponsor for the awards night.
Last year’s event – the first for two years because the gala evening in 2020 had to be cancelled due to pandemic restrictions – saw champions crowned across the 14 different categories and a record-breaking 36,887 votes cast for the 153 Islanders nominated. Nominations close at 11.59pm tomorrow.
