Two sites for four-day July French market

The Norman Market will be in Jersey on Bastille Day

THE Norman Market is due to return to St Helier this month, while France’s national day will also be celebrated in the Royal Square.

In welcome news for Francophiles, French people and foodies, a range of cheese, sausages, cider and other French products will be on sale from 14 July to 17 July, with the market based in the Royal Square on Thursday and Friday before moving to Broad Street for the weekend.

The French market paid its first 2022 visit to Jersey last month and, alongside the food stalls at the four-day event in July, there will be a range of traders offering soaps, bags and jewellery. Maison de Normandie will also have a stand in the Royal Square.

The traders will relocate on the Friday night to take part in the weekend’s Fête de St Helier celebrations.

Before Covid travel restrictions came into effect, the French Market was a regular summer and December event in the Island.

The latest visit will also coincide with a special celebration of Bastille Day on 14 July, a day on which French citizens across the globe gather to celebrate their common heritage with music and food.

Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche, the Alliance Française and the French Consular Agency in Jersey have joined forces to give Islanders a chance to toast the occasion, for which the Royal Square will be decorated with the colours of France and festive French music will be played from 5pm to 8.30pm by DJ Stefunk.
