THE government has reminded eligible Islanders that they have until the end of this month to receive their spring booster Covid jab, to give themselves the ‘best protection’ this summer.

Emma Baker, the head of Jersey’s vaccination programme, said: ‘Immunity from previous vaccinations wanes over time so it is vital to ensure your immunity levels are at their best through the summer months.’

She added: ‘The booster will not be offered over the summer, so I urge Islanders to book their appointment as soon as possible. Don’t miss out and give yourself the best protection this summer.’

The warning comes as Jersey experiences a ‘significant and sustained rise’ in Covid cases.

People who are eligible include those aged over 75 and immunosuppressed Islanders. Since the launch of the programme, 75% of those eligible have taken up the offer of a booster.

The government said the spring booster programme will expire on 30 June, to align with interim advice regarding the autumn booster scheme from the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).
