THOUSANDS of passengers are due to travel to and from Jersey this weekend and those flying with easyJet have been reassured by the airline that their flight should go ahead despite hundreds of cancellations.

Over 200 easyJet flights across the world were cancelled yesterday and Thursday owing to an IT problem – including all inbound and outbound routes from Jersey to Liverpool on Thursday, as well as a morning London Gatwick service yesterday. However, all other easyJet flights in and out of the Island have operated as planned.

A spokesperson for easyJet said: ‘On Thursday we operated almost 1,500 flights network wide. Around 200 were impacted by an IT systems issue, which was rectified within a couple of hours. On Friday we planned to operate around 1,700 flights but unfortunately a small number were impacted on Friday morning. Customers have been notified and provided with options to rebook or receive a refund. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.’

The cancellations come just before the beginning of the May half-term holiday when between 4,500 and 5,000 people are expected to depart and arrive into Jersey in the coming days.

Ports of Jersey has encouraged passengers to give themselves ‘plenty of time to check in and go through the security process’.
