A CANDIDATE with experience in agriculture and construction is to stand in the St Mary, St Ouen and St Peter district, having become ‘frustrated’ at how Jersey is being governed.

David Benn, who is standing for the Jersey Liberal Conservatives, followed a career in agriculture, eventually owning his own farm in St John, before joining the French construction industry, the party said. He was also chair of the potato committee of the Jersey Farmers’ Union and a member of the JFU Council.

Mr Benn said: ‘I am frustrated with the way our wonderful island is being governed, burdening our young people with huge debts and impossible house prices. I want to use my skills of communication, clear thinking, and compassion to achieve common sense solutions for our island.’

JLC said Mr Benn would be living in the district from July. He has also served in the honorary police of St Ouen and St John and was described as a ‘strong supporter of the honorary system’. Mr Benn is a fluent French speaker.

Party leader Sir Philip Bailhache called Mr Benn an ‘experienced businessman’ who ‘feels passionately about Jersey’.
