ISLANDERS who pick up a copy of the JEP at certain outlets today will also be given one of 1,000 Jersey flags.

The JEP has partnered with printing and embroidery company Magic Touch to help celebrate Liberation Day on Monday. Due to the pandemic, this year will be the first since 2019 where Liberation Day celebrations have been able to be staged in full.

The following stores will be giving away the flags with editions of the JEP: St John Village Store; Morrisons St Ouen Village; Coop Red Houses; Morrisons Gorey Village; Coop Pontac; and Coop Five Oaks.

Each store has 50 to give away today (Friday), as well as 60 to hand out tomorrow.

The JEP reception on Bath Street will also be handing out 20 today.

The flags have been donated by Magic Touch, who have supported Liberation Day celebrations since they first opened in 1995.

Phil Heard, owner of Magic Touch, said: ‘Both of my parents lived through the Occupation.

‘My mother was evacuated from Jersey and when she eventually came back, they found that her house had been ransacked, while my father lived here with his parents throughout the war. So we have always supported Liberation Day causes throughout the years and done whatever we can to help out with certain initiatives.

‘I would encourage everyone to buy a copy of the JEP so they can get their free flag and join in the celebrations.’
