Assets suspected to be linked to Abramovich frozen

Roman Abramovich.

MORE than $7 billion worth of assets suspected to be connected to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich were frozen by the Royal Court yesterday.

A search warrant was also executed by the States police at premises in Jersey suspected to be connected to the business activities of Mr Abramovich.

The formal freezing order made by the Royal Court on Tuesday, known as a saisie judiciaire, has been imposed on assets either located in Jersey or owned by Jersey incorporated entities that are suspected to be linked to Mr Abramovich.

Last month the JEP exclusively revealed that it had seen company and financial records which showed that a St Helier-registered firm loaned £1.5 billion to one of the Chelsea FC owner’s companies.

More to follow in Thursday’s JEP.
