A SITTING Deputy will seek re-election in the St Clement district.
Deputy Lindsay Ash, who who was first elected in 2018, currently serves as an Assistant Treasury Minister, and will stand for the Jersey Alliance – one of the newly formed parties contesting this year’s election on 22 June.
He said: ‘It has been an honour and pleasure to represent St Clement in the States Assembly for the last few years.
‘St Clement is a very special parish, with a strong community spirit, which has been particularly evident during the pandemic.
‘It has been a challenging time to be a politician during the last few years with Covid; indeed it has been a challenging time for us all.’
He added: ‘I have done all I can to help Islanders to get through this difficult time, working with colleagues in government to provide support to both businesses and individuals.’
Deputy Ash cited the Spend Local scheme – whereby all Islanders were given £100 to spend at with businesses to support the economy after the Covid lockdowns – which he was ‘heavily involved’ in, as one of his key successes from this term of office.
He said: ‘Many hard decisions have been taken over the last few years and more need to be taken in the future. This requires a team of people working together in the public interest. I and my colleagues in the Jersey Alliance are well placed to ensure that the necessary actions are taken for the good of the Island.’
The Jersey Alliance – led by Sir Mark Boleat – is one of three new parties set to contest this year’s election alongside the Jersey Liberal Conservatives and the Progress Party, joining the already-established Reform Jersey at the ballot.
The St Clement constituency boundaries remain the same as they were in 2018 – the only one of Jersey’s nine electoral constituencies to remain unchanged since then.
St Clement will elect four Deputies in the 2022 general election, compared to two in 2018.
