VISIT Jersey has launched a new drive to boost tourism numbers after confirmation that the Island was once again the sunniest place in the British Isles in 2021.
Initial figures from Jersey Met and the UK Met Office, first published in the JEP in January, have now been officially confirmed, with the Island retaining its title after recording 2,331 hours of sunshine last year.
Amanda Burns, chief executive of Visit Jersey, said: ‘It is perfect timing: with Brits starved of sun over the winter months, our visitors are dreaming of sunnier days.
‘With the sea never more than ten minutes away in Jersey, we look forward to welcoming visitors to feel warm sand between their toes before they know it!’
Visit Jersey has issued a list of the Island’s top attractions to be enjoyed when the sun is shining, including the Coastal National Park, St Brelade’s Bay, RIB trips to offshore reefs, coasteering and the walk to Corbière Lighthouse.
Jersey’s sunshine hours for 2021 left the Island well ahead of the sunniest place on the UK mainland, Preston in Dorset – which recorded 1,989 hours – and the 1,916 hours logged in nearby Guernsey.
