A MESSAGE on behalf of all Islanders has been sent to the Queen to mark her Platinum Jubilee.

Tomorrow Her Majesty will become the first British monarch ever to celebrate 70 years on the throne.

And the Bailiff, Timothy Le Cocq, has sent a message to her on behalf of Jersey. He said: ‘I’m honoured to have been able to mark this momentous occasion by extending the Island’s well wishes to Her Majesty, on the day which is such a significant milestone in her reign and our history.

‘I’m looking forward to June when Islanders can come together to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee along with the United Kingdom and her other realms and the Commonwealth.’

The Dean of Jersey, the Very Reverend Mike Keirle, is asking that if they wish church bellringers in the Island should ring their bells for 15 minutes tomorrow, starting at midday, in celebration of the anniversary.

In the UK a programme of events has been published for the four days of celebrations from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June.

Next week the Bailiff’s Office will announce Jersey’s own programme of civic events for the occasion.
