PLANS to raze all buildings at the Overdale site – separate to proposals to build a new hospital there – have been unanimously rejected by the Planning Committee.

During a meeting of the panel, some members said they were unable to support the application as they thought it would not be compliant with the Island Plan policy and its requirement of reusing serviceable buildings. This was in reference to the Westmount Centre, the Poplars Day Centre and the William Knott Day Hospital which are still in use.

Other committee members described the plans as ‘cart before the horse’.

All five members – Deputies Graham Truscott, Steve Luce, Kirsten Morel, Jeremy Maçon, as well as Constable Marcus Troy – voted to refuse the application.
