OFFICIALS from St John packed the Royal Court yesterday when 13 officials were sworn into parish roles.

Among those present were Peter Pallot, Nicholas Lane and Edward Le Cornu, who have been elected as members of the roads committee.

Mr Pallot has given six years of service in the position and the other two have served as roads inspectors. Paul Berks took the oath of a rates assessor.

Six roads inspectors were also sworn in – Stephen Masters, Ralph Morin, Alan Coutanche, David Gallichan, Colin Queree and Kevin Armstrong. The Bailiff, Timothy Le Cocq, referring to how some of those were serving for the first time, said: ‘I am sure you have no idea what you are letting yourselves in for, but I am sure it will be a rewarding and satisfying time.’

During the same proceedings, honorary police officers were also sworn in for the parish. Ian Syvret took the oath of a Vingtenier after serving four times previously.

Addressing him, Mr Le Cocq said: ‘The honorary police serve an enormously important role in the administration of justice in the Island and it is good to see that people are willing to come forward to serve their parish – not just once but on several occasions.’

Gary Grimshaw, a former JEP photographer, and Robin Le Boutillier were also sworn in as Constables Officers.

Constable Andy Jehan (front right) and other incumbent parish officials were present in the Royal Court to observe proceedings.
